White Rabbits

Go on all you want about Caribbean rhythms meeting downtown guitar riffs at after hours bars on singles cruises. Because yeah, White Rabbits got all that. But that's not even nearly where it's at. What these New York via middle-of-nowhere knockabouts have in spades is cups running over with sparkly-eyed, blissed-out, lust for life. Their self-proclaimed honky-tonk calypso live show is so brimming with gaga, off-the-charts enthusiasm that all you can do is fall in love over and over and over again.
Emily King

It ain't easy being Emily King, or so she claims. But what's so tough about being talented, beautiful and 21? Well, King's songs delve deeper than common pop. "If I write a song, it's not going to be about relationships," she says. "There are so many things in this world to talk about." True. At the top of our list: Emily King. The 21-year-old New York soul-popper is turning major heads with her East Side Story, an easy blend of, well, as she puts it, "Every record that I've ever heard."

The Cool Kids

Cool Kids is just two dope Chicago boys on a bike, flossin' hard for everybody who can't. They're Chuck and Mikey and they're making the hits, dipping pens deep in equal parts hip-hop and hipster aesthetics. They got big chains, cracked-up caps and old time glasses, but don't call it a throwback. "A lot of people are drawing those comparisons but this is just us being us." That means making dope s#@&. Bringing a feeling back. And all that adds up to some golden age rap that makes a fan feel good.

Calvin Harris
Calvin Harris

You know disco? Yeah. Calvin Harris invented it. Nevermind that he's 23 and from Dumfries. In fact, forget everything you know and sit on this a minute: "My live band's gonna be even more rocking than the tunes. I'll be singing, but only because no one else in Dumfries can sing. I've got an extremely limited range. But I will be wearing a top hat made from the skin of a tiger." Huh? Truth is this: Calvin Harris is flipping lids from Myspace to Manchester. Listen. He makes Beck sound like a dad.

Paulson

Paulson's an indie rock band outta New Jersey who sound kinda like Cave In joined The Postal Service. But don't get all hung up on reference points. There's more here. Logan Laflotte (lead singer), Alex Burton (bass), Jesse Burton (guitar), John Guarente and Jeff Widner (drums) have been fighting the good fight for more than six years, and almost as many record labels, doing their damnedest to get their records played. Now, with the 2007 release of All At Once, it's finally happening. Give it a spin and get on board.
